Learning to Recognize Holy Moments in Everyday Life
Learning to recognize holy moments in everyday life involves a willingness to see beyond the surface of daily routines in ordinary life. And what happens in holy moments is not always about the appearance of the moment but the depth and the attention and meaning we bring to it.
Life itself is worthy of wonder, but holy moments require gratitude, openness, reverence and peace. It may be associated with religious faith, but it isn’t aways.
To catch the holy moments in our life we need to slow down to notice what’s happening around us. We must listen deeply and pay attention to emotions and silence and presence. Practice gratitude by naming people you’re grateful for, instead of a general thank you to God. Remain open to new experiences or surprises. Protecting moments of quiet is very important, that is when you pray and meditate on God’s holy word, listen to Christian music, that you may start to hear God’s still small voice. Also, journaling can retain moments of insight that you may otherwise forget.
Sometimes holy moments are hidden in plain sight. They may be found in discovering a difficult truth, a peaceful walk, or the gift of another day. To recognize these holy moments, we need a receptive heart, a patient heart and the courage to pause and listen. We need to remain open to life whether it’s a gathering of close friends, people we are meeting for the first time, or being alone with ourselves. Listen & hear.
And remember, in His hands we live- shalom—shalom!
